This morning, architects from Société Logique watched with interest the announcement of the Proposed Regulation promoting accessibility within residential dwellings by ministers Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and Housing, Lucie Charlebois, Minister for Rehabilitation, Youth Protection, Public Health and Healthy Living, and Francine Charbonneau, Minister responsible for Seniors and Anti-Bullying.
The organization applauds this long-awaited amendment to Québec’s Construction Code, which is in line with the accessibility requirements already set out in Chapter I – Building.
« This is a first step in the right direction. We realize that not all needs will be met, but what we are hearing today will change building practices. This is the first time that the barrier-free path has gone beyond the front door and creeps into private space. We have been working on it for a long time! » rejoices Sylvie Quintin, architect and universal design consultant at Société Logique.
